Onyx Eclipse 60HL gas fire – “My first ever fireplace and it’s a winner”

I have never had a proper functioning fireplace anywhere I’ve lived up until now. Growing up in a warm country, it was never something we needed or thought about having. When I moved into my current home, there was an old fashioned gas stove that wasn’t particularly nice and made the room too hot so we hardly used it. When we had to get our pipework redone for our central heating, we didn’t really think twice about the necessity to have the stove removed. However, as a result, there has been an open space that has been a bit of an eye sore with little inspiration or impetus as to how to improve it. Through the good fortune of having a tile-fitter who advised us that we should fix the fireplace (if we ever wanted to use it as a heat source again) before we had the floors put in, we looked into our options. We ultimately landed on the Onyx as our pick and cannot believe we ever considered not having a fireplace in the space!! It has completely transformed our living room and although we are still in the process of the renovation with the walls and floors still to be done, it has already made a dramatic change to the space. It feels as though the fire is coming out to you – that you can reach out and be able to touch the flames (not that we would want to do such a thing!) but its impossible to tell a glass separates you from the logs it’s so well designed. The ambience it creates is warming and inviting and although we haven’t tested it out properly for its heating capacity yet given its the height of summer and the heat has arrived to the UK, we’ve already gotten a taste of the kind of heat it can produce. Really excited for winter to come so that we can give it a proper test run. It will undoubtedly become the centrepiece of our living space.
